Course (Re)Design Institute

The P3 Collaboratory is excited to announce the inaugural Course (re)Design Institute. This intensive four-day program is designed to support faculty in redesigning an existing course or designing a new course to be taught in the 2024-2025 academic year. Participants will work together for four days in June 2024 with ongoing opportunities throughout the summer for asynchronous drafting and ongoing feedback. Further details about the content and participant requirements of the institute are available below.

 

Summer 2024 Meeting Schedule

 

  • June 3-4 (10a-2pm): In-person, on-campus convenings (meals will be provided)

  • June 17-18 (10a-noon): Virtual convenings

  • July 10: “Demystifying AI for Teaching and Learning” workshop, 10-11AM via Zoom (open to all members of the RU-N instructional community; required for Course (re)Design participants)

Program Expectations

 

  • Attendance: Participants are expected to attend all scheduled sessions above.

  • Course Design Elements:  Participants are expected to revisit, revise, and submit the following in Summer 2024 for peer feedback:

 

1) course level learning objectives

2) course assessment/assignment plan

3) at least one course assignment

4) detailed course description

 

Note: The peer feedback aspect of this program means that participants will submit and also review & provide feedback on a colleague’s course materials.

 

  • One-on-One Consultations with P3 faculty: Participants in the Course (re)Design Institute are expected to meet with the facilitator one-on-one at a mutually agreed upon time during Summer 2024. 

  • Canvas Design Consultation: All participants expected to schedule a consultation with an instructional designer at Rutgers Teaching and Learning with Technology to support the design & implementation of Canvas course design considerations.

  • Preparation of Revised Syllabus / Course Design Document: Participants in the Course (re)Design Institute will be asked to submit their revised syllabus before September 1, 2024. 

 

Incentives and Application Process

 

  • All Rutgers-Newark full-time and part-time faculty, and graduate students in teaching roles, are welcome to apply.

  • Interested and eligible participants should complete this application by April 30, 2024. Please note that the application requires a statement of interest from applicants that addresses the following (in 500 words or less):

    • Which course do you plan to redesign?

    • What changes are you hoping to make to your course, its structure or content, and/or its assessment plan?

    • Why do you think your course needs a redesign? What is working / not working in the course? 

    • What aspects of this course or course design in general are you most looking for guidance on?

    • How will this experience support your professional / career development?

  • Successful participants will receive $2,500.

 

Applicants will be notified re: admissions decisions by May 15, 2024.
