About the Event

This workshop, hosted by Equity Accelerator, will explore effective mentorship practices for faculty-undergraduate student relationships.  First, we will discuss why mentorship and psychosocial support contribute to short-term and long-term persistence and performance gains among students, especially underrepresented students. Then, we will focus on how to engage in psychosocially supportive mentorship to increase student’s belonging, identity, and self-efficacy, which all predict student success over time. This workshop combines empirical evidence with interactive activities to further develop our skills as mentors to satisfy the psychological needs of all students and close pervasive equity gaps in STEM.
